Via Giuseppe Mazzini 34, Albanella

In the days prior to this painting, I got to see some incredible door paintings that my friend and fellow artist, Patrick Okrasinski, had made and they inspired me greatly. I also spent some time talking to Jared Brady about crunching shadows to a shorter tonal range as I had a tendency to start with my shadows too light. So this day, we went searching for strong contrast and beautiful shadows to crunch. I started this painting with a chromatic black and it instantly set my tonal range for the rest of the piece, giving me a better idea of what tone/color I needed for the next stroke. And from there I was able to paint it without having to repaint anything. It went along piece by piece.
